little people by slinkachu.

I was in a bookshop today with my friend and he spied this lovely book. It features photographs of miniature figurines placed in real life settings, but in such a way that the figurines, while obviously small, somehow seem almost natural in their larger-than-their-life spaces.

I really love the altered perspective, and how one can totally tell that the artist (please please please check Slinkachu out!) is having a blast!

i want to go to there!

Oh, but I am there (New York)!

Thrift shop in Brooklyn Heights.

Having a picnic in Queens!

art in my hood.

life.

These are some people I love. Life has been good. Thanks, New York.

Paper, exacto knife, pen
Notes: I ended up liking the white on white look over the pen look. Thoughts? Also, my hand hurts.

we interrupt the usual art posts.

Notes: I LOVE RON SWANSON.

i want it to be autumn!

Autumn is my favorite season. I love the fiery colors, the feeling of buying new school supplies (even though I am no longer a student I will still mill (alliteration- COOL) about the Target bins of markers and pens for the hell of it. Yes, I'm a nerd), and the smell of the incoming cold. And pie. OH PIE.

Here's a piece that I made for the boyfriend.

Watercolor on water color paper, exacto knife
Notes: I have a strange love for exacto knifing.

cotton zoo.

Flying kitten.
Dinosaur-ish blobs.

My sister (le petit elefant) is the one to go to for plush lovelies, among other adorable crafty things, but I do enjoy creating my own from time to time. They're all tame. I promise.

Cotton, felt, embroidery floss, misc cloth material.

Missing a few legs, but still happy.

bam! pow! ZAP!

I really really really really wish I had gone to Comicon. In the spirit of comics, here are old sketches that I did in middle school. Oh how I love the comics!

Pencil
Notes: YAY SUPERHEROES!

robot love.

Gouache paint on watercolor paper
Notes: I made this for an art class in college. Borrowed the robot image from a photograph I stumbled upon online, then used tracing paper to draw them overlapping.

rediscovering jim steranko.

Jim Steranko, 72, is an amazing American graphic and comic book artist, among other things (which include being a MAGICIAN! Seriously!). He is well-known for his work in the 1960s with Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and he "earned lasting acclaim for his innovations in sequential art during the Silver Age of comic books, particularly his infusion of surrealism, op art, and graphic design into the medium" (Wikipedia). (Yea, I'm citing Wikipedia. WUT?)

Seriously though, his art is awesome. Check it:

SO AWESOME.

mock shins concert poster.

Inspired by a sight that I saw & sketched in the Philippines, on the island province of Bohol. The sky looked like layers of color and I tried to recreate that.

Program: Adobe Illustrator.
Notes: I also like gold fish.
